Alkali‐surfactant foam improves extraction of oil from porous media

چکیده

Abstract Capillary forces result in the trapping of oleic phase porous media even after extensive flushing with brine. Alkali‐surfactant‐polymer formulations drastically diminish capillary forces, whereas adding polymer to water increases viscous resulting highly efficient extraction residual oil. However, by virtue its scale, above process requires a large quantity chemicals, which poses threat environment. Here, we demonstrate that replacing gas such as nitrogen, flue gas, or carbon dioxide achieves equally superior oil efficiency when using much smaller amount chemicals. Mobilized is first displaced continuous (oil‐bank) and then an oil‐in‐water dispersion. Microflow visualization experiments reveal dispersed spreads at gas–liquid interface (surfactant solutions) due presence adsorbed surfactant molecules. Our dry‐cleaning hydrocarbons has wide spectrum applications particularly useful for production from underground formations while mitigating impact chemicals on

Simulation of Foam Transport in Porous Media

FOllin is an excellent fluid for achieving mobility control of gas in porous media. Practical application of fOllins for EOR processes, however requires a predictive model of foam displacement. Further, quantitative information on fOllin-flow behavior at reservoir flow rates llild pressures is required as input to llily field-scale modeling. An experimental and mechanistic-modeling study is rep...

Effect of Foam on Liquid Phase Mobility in Porous Media

We investigate the validity of the assumption that foam in porous media reduces the mobility of gas phase only and does not impact the liquid-phase mobility. The foam is generated by simultaneous injection of nitrogen gas and a surfactant solution into sandstone cores and its strength is varied by changing surfactant type and concentration. We find, indeed, that the effect of foam on liquid-pha...

Modeling Foamy Oil Flow in Porous Media

Certain heavy oils which foam under severe depressurization give rise to increased recovery factor and an increased rate of production under solution gas drive. These oils not only stabilize foam, but also stabilize dispersion of gas bubbles at lower volume ratios. The way this phenomenon is related to the chemistry of the oil and its viscosity is presently not understood. We present here a mat...

Foamy Oil Flow in Porous Media

Certain heavy oils which foam under severe depressurization give rise to increased production and an increased rate of production under solution gas drive. The phenomenon seems to be related to the chemistry of these oils which not only stabilize foam but also stabilize dispersion of gas bubbles at lower volume ratios. We present here a mathematical model of this phenomenon which depends only o...

Foamy oil ow in porous media

This model is motivated by the need to explain anomalous features associated with production from reservoirs of so-called foamy oils. These oils are described by some of their properties of response to pressure declines; it is noted that they nucleate dispersed gas bubbles and display obvious foaminess in well head samples produced by solution gas drive in which oil and gas is produced by the d...
